Pic Saint-Loup

Description

Plot selection

Located in the town of Corconne, the « Bois de Tourtourel » is an exceptional and unique terroir in Pic Saint-Loup, thanks to an accumulation of Jurassic-era limestone shards created from ice forming in the small crevices of the limestone rock, bursting it into small pieces of gravel, which was then spread over vast swathes of land by floods during the Quaternary period. Nowadays, it is composed of a very homogeneous viticultural soil about 5 meters deep on average. This soil has an important capacity to drain and store large amounts of water deep beneath the soil surface, which gives a regular source of water to the vines during the summer season. With a great exposure, this terroir, downhill from the massif of the forest of Coutach, is protected from northen winds. It has a south, south-eastern exposure, which allows it to benefit from a warm micro-climate. The vineyard is located at 150 meters on a gentle slope.

Cultivation mode

The vineyard has been managed in organic farming since 2006 and biodynamic practices have been introduced for 5 years.

« Madeleine » is located at an altitude of 150 meters. The soil is composed of a thick layer of rocky colluvion, limestone-clay from the second Cretaceous era, ideally allowing for natural drainage. Water reserves are abundant, deep below the soil surface. The vegetation is composed of primarily green oak, white oak, rosemary, thyme, juniper bushes, honeysuckle, Aleppo pine: all of these grow in a very hot micro-climate. Due to its south-eastern exposure, this vineyard is one of the first to achieve full maturity during harvest.

Description

Plot selection

Enveloped in gentle sloping hills formed during the Inferior Cretaceous period, this plot is composed of a hard, thin limestone soil, which alternates with brown marl and limestone marl. Their erosion covered them with colluvial, clay limestone, rich in small limestone debris, which ensures an ample access to water for the vine. This plot also benefits from particularly fresh air, a unique component of the “terroir” here, which allows the grape clusters to ripen more slowly.
