Disbudding to shape the future harvest

Disbudding and removing the unwanted new shoots

After a particularly rainy winter and spring, the foliage has developed rapidly in our plots. During the beginning of June, we focused on a task that requires meticulousness and precision: disbudding and removing the unwanted new shoots.

These two methods, which are carried out manually, involve removing buds and young shoots that develop on the old wood. This allows us to aerate the vine and concentrate the vine’s energy on the selected branches, thus encouraging better quality for future grapes.

Wire lifting

We also carried out wire lifting, which guides the growth of the shoots vertically, thus ensuring a better exposure of the leaves to light. Lifting is particularly essential for grape varieties such as Syrah, whose branches are long and tend to fall naturally.

These steps are part of our desire to allow the vine to produce balanced grapes in the best possible conditions.

Our teams work with rigor and expertise to carry out these practices from the plant’s awakening to harvest.
